Dear aspiring competitors,
Let me be candid with you—posing is an art that can’t be mastered overnight, and it’s far more than just striking a few basic poses on stage. If you believe that attending a few posing sessions three weeks before your competition will suffice, think again! Posing encompasses stage presence, fluid transitions, intricate arm and head movements, connecting with judges, and a whole lot more. It’s a demanding endeavor, akin to your rigorous gym training and disciplined diet!
Even giving it eight weeks isn’t sufficient! The journey of posing begins from the very moment you decide to compete, typically around 15 to 20 weeks before your contest. Keep in mind that as the competition date nears, your calorie intake drops, and your carb consumption decreases, impacting your focus, attention, and even memory! Fatigue creeps in, irritability takes over, and trust me, you won’t have the mental capacity to remember the nuances of each pose, let alone flexing and holding them for a grueling 3 minutes!
I don’t mean to burst your bubble, but expecting to become a posing virtuoso in just three weeks is unrealistic. Don’t nurture illusions that your past experiences as a dancer or model will magically transform you. In three weeks, the most you can achieve is memorizing the basics, and perhaps grasping transitions if you dedicate a solid hour every day. And, always remember that quarter turn to the right after each pose—it’s a detail that can’t be overlooked!
For novice athletes, I’ve discovered that a minimum of 5 dedicated sessions is the key to stage-ready perfection. That’s why I offer an exclusive posing package structured around this journey. Here’s a glimpse of what the 5-session package entails for beginners:
Session 1: Your inaugural session will introduce you to the essential 4 standard quarter-turn poses tailored to your federation’s requirements. You’ll also receive valuable insights on mobility exercises to ensure you can hold those poses with finesse.
Session 2: Building on the foundation from session one, we’ll revisit the 4 standard poses. This time, we’ll delve deeper, refining your technique and ensuring those poses are impeccable. Then, it’s all about transitioning seamlessly between them, making sure you glide around those quarter turns with grace.
Session 3: Now, it’s time to take your stage presence up a notch. We’ll embark on crafting a captivating T-walk (or an I-walk, depending on your federation’s rules). You’ll embrace the “sassy walk” and we’ll create a routine that resonates with your style, making you feel like an absolute diva when you step onto the stage.
Sessions 4 & 5: As we progress, we’ll continue to fine-tune your quarter turns and refine your walk and T-walk over the next two sessions. But that’s not all. We’ll also simulate “mock-ups” of the full show experience, covering everything from your entrance on stage to holding poses on the sidelines, call-outs, and even the intense pose-down. This way, you’ll be well-prepared and know exactly what to expect when the spotlight shines on you.
